We are not talking about a dollar amount and sadly, I did not win the lottery.
313,000,000.
That’s the number of results that shows up on Google when you search for SEO tools (as of today).
No wonder why so many business owners are afraid of SEO. It can feel overwhelming and I know the feeling. When I designed my first website, I was indeed overwhelmed when I looked into SEO. Where do I start? There are so many tools. Is there a tool that can just do everything? We both wished so. I had many questions! So I turned to experts in the field.
One of them recently published an exhaustive list of SEO tools: 190 of them. This is still a lot when you are getting started. And you really don’t need 190 tools. You just need to pick a few to get started and along the way you can add/remove as necessary. Every site is different so arming yourself with the right SEO tools is all about picking what works best for you. For instance, this site is hosted on WordPress so to optimize it we will use tools that would work well for a WordPress site.
To narrow the tools for you, I spent some time reading books on best SEO tools and also asked 96 experts in the field what were they 5-10 top tools. I then aggregated all the data from my research to narrow it to the 20 tools below. Let’s check them out!

Next week we are going to use some of these tools to dig into technical SEO and do a site audit.
I want you to spend some time to look at these tools and learn about them before coming back next week. I want you to spend some time learning about these tools because SEO takes time, consistency and hard work. So by investing the time in learning about these tools on your own time, you will already be moving one step ahead. If you don’t spend the time and just wait for next week’s article, that would be going about this whole journey the wrong way.
So I am counting on you to do your homework and come back next week. We will dig into onsite SEO as well as do a site audit!
